  there are no real numbers for jws but they are a relatively small group.

  compared to the number of catholics at least.. the australian commission gathered more than 5000 cases with over 1000 perpetrators that went completely unreported for the jws.

  likewise they did the same for catholics and collected just under 4800 cases with 1880 perpetrators.

  What you cannot say about JW parents

  i’m guiding a young person through some difficulties.

  at least some of the family including a parent and grandparents are/were jw.

  so there are some insecurities, without going into detail, young people are often worried that they may be ejected from the home after reaching a certain age if they offend their parents (totally normal feeling).. what i wanted to say is: a loving parent wouldn’t reject you because you did x, if anything they are expecting it, it is totally normal for you to do this.

  'Worldly' parents will often go to hell and back for their kids. JW parents have been brainwashed into believing that any mistakes their kids make is all on the kids and shift the blame for their genetics or bad parenting to them. Instead of responsible parents helping them through adolescence, they are ostracised.

  Bible says God confused peoples languages at Babel....is this childish nonsense?

  yeah so in genesis we read how people began building a tower which would reach up to jehovah in heaven....must have been damn tall....rather then just stop them, god changes everyones language.....one guys speakin french.....another speakin russian and so on!

  can't finish the tower now can they!!

  this is not very scientific......does anyone believe this is how languages got started???

  We all know the story. it basically makes the claim that the Tower of Babel event occurred in 2200 bce. Up until then, there was only 1 language, which the WT claims was Hebrew, form this quote:

  'Up until some point after the global Flood, all mankind “continued to be of one language [literally, “lip”] and of one set of words.” (Ge 11:1) The Bible indicates that the language later called Hebrew was that original “one language.” (See HEBREW, II.) As will be shown, this does not mean that all other languages stemmed from and are related to Hebrew but that Hebrew preceded all other languages.'

  A 5 minute google search - that a child could perform and understand, tells us this:

  In 2500 bce, there were already at least 4 major, verified language scripts, Egyptian, Indus, Sumerian and proto-Elamite.

  Yet rivergang and yourself claimed that the metaphysical phenomena of thought and emotion always follows the chemical reaction.

  I cant speak for rivergang but I'm not sure I made that claim.

  Food is a basic human need. You do not need to be thinking about food to 'feel' hungry. That feeling is a chemical reaction that comes from the brain reminding you to eat. Because I thought about a burger and how great they taste, it triggered an instant response that I assume was my brains reward system anticipating what a burger would taste like.

  Maybe I was 'feeling' a little hungry before I started thinking about a burger?

  Thoughts trigger 'feelings' and 'feelings' trigger thoughts. I think it goes both ways but then again Im not a neuro-scientist.

  The feelings of empathy, kindness and consideration are simply byproducts of a chemical reaction?

  Yes. However I would say there is more to this, like a person's culture or background that could play a part. For example, females tend to feel more guilt than men, they are more likely to choose a career that involves a caring or supporting role.

  The brains reward system is powerful. Its a constant battle for everyone to recognise the dangers of seeking short term gratification and the dopamine reward that comes with it, over long term, sustained effort.

  Resisting the bodies natural urge to eat more than we need to achieve a long term goal is harder than eating a nice juicy burger every day. Now I feel like a burger. Just writing this produced a neuro-chemical reaction that made my mouth water. 🍔

  Do love, fear and hate...hope and dread ...fall under the category of 'physical' or 'metaphysical'?

  They are metaphysical in the sense that feelings cant be observed.

  However, they are closely related to physical in the sense that a physical event may cause feelings of fear, anxiety, arousal etc. The 'feelings' we experience are caused by neuro-chemical reactions.

  I suspect All of the posters on this thread critical of the unbroken chain of evidence on the deity of Christ from the eyewitnesses of the Resurection down to the present day DO NOT accept the biblical definition of our soul and spirit as PERSONS in the bible.

  Nobody witnessed the resurrection.

  :) 1) medical matters: (technology has arrived) listing of hlc members is not online and updated regularly, but only elders have access, not for general circulation.

  (and in case the reader of the letter needs clarification) copies should not be made for publishers or on the information board (!).

  The purpose of the HLC has always been confusing to me.

  The elders I knew that were on it were some of the most pretentious wanna-be's. The JW's are all about image and public perception but they have managed to find a way, via the HLC to piss off well meaning medical staff and non-witness families with threats of legal action concerning how a JW patient is treated.

  It is a great example of how much power and control the organisation has on its members. They have to be involved in the most vulnerable parts of their life.
